View Itinerary →Sunrise medina, Kasbah Museum, Cap Spartel, and Café Hafa
A comprehensive day exploring Tangier's historic medina, the iconic Kasbah, the natural wonders of Cap Spartel and Hercules Cave, and ending with a traditional sunset tea at Café Hafa.
Morning Walk in the Medina
Start your day early to explore the winding alleys of the Tangier Medina. Visit the Grand Socco to see the blend of Moroccan and colonial architecture. This is the best time to see the locals and avoid the midday heat.
Kasbah Museum and Gardens
Visit the former Sultan's palace turned museum. Explore the Andalusian gardens and view the collection of artifacts, including the famous 'Tangier Lion' statue. The views from the Kasbah over the bay are spectacular.
American Legation Museum
Visit the oldest U.S. diplomatic property abroad. This National Historic Landmark offers a unique insight into diplomatic history and serves as a cultural institute. It is a short walk from the Kasbah.
Lunch in the Medina
Enjoy a traditional Moroccan lunch. Try tagine or couscous at a local restaurant near the medina or the American Legation area.
Travel to Cap Spartel
Take a petit taxi or hire a driver for the afternoon excursion to Cap Spartel, located about 15km west of the city center. The drive offers scenic coastal views.
Cap Spartel
Visit the cape where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean. See the lighthouse and the natural rock formations. The wind is often strong here, providing a refreshing break from the city.
Cave of Hercules
Located near Cap Spartel, this natural sea cave features a rock formation that resembles the map of Africa. Legend says it was the lair of the giant Hercules. The entrance is a natural archway facing the Atlantic.
Return to Tangier City Center
Take a taxi back to the city center, heading towards the northern coast for sunset.
Place de France and Sunset Tea
End your day at the historic Place de France. Walk along the promenade and enjoy the sunset over the Strait of Gibraltar. Stop at the famous Café Hafa for traditional mint tea and views of the Spanish coast.
Where to stay: Stay in the Medina or near Place de France for easy access to historic sites and cafes. Options range from traditional Riads to colonial-style hotels.
Getting around: Use petit taxis for short distances within the city. For Cap Spartel and Hercules Cave, hiring a driver for a few hours or taking a grand taxi is recommended as public transport is less convenient for this route.
