Located in the far north of Morocco, the Tangier-Tetouan region is bounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north and east, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, and the Rif Mountains to the south. The region’s capital, Tangier (Tanger), is a vibrant port city famous for its cosmopolitan history and literary heritage, having long attracted artists and writers like Paul Bowles and Anthony Burgess. Nearby, the white-washed city of Tetouan, a UNESCO World Heritage site, preserves a remarkably intact medieval medina that reflects its Andalusian origins.
