Mouassine Museum

The Mouassine Museum, also known as the Museum of Music, is located in the historic Mouassine district, just a five-minute walk north of Jemaa el-Fna square. Housed in a beautifully restored 16th to 17th-century Saadian residence, the building itself is a significant example of traditional Moroccan architecture. The museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing Morocco’s rich musical heritage, displaying a wide array of traditional instruments and artifacts that reflect the country’s diverse cultural traditions.

Visitors explore the restored douiria, which features intricate tile work, carved wood, and serene courtyards. The exhibits provide a deep dive into the history of Moroccan music, offering context for the various instruments on display. The museum is open daily from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Admission costs €6 for adults and €2 for children under 12 and Moroccan residents, though online booking rates are higher at €10 and €6 respectively. The museum is easily accessible on foot from the main square and nearby spice souks, making it a convenient stop for those exploring the medina. From October to May, the museum hosts "Music Nights of the Medina," offering live performances that bring the exhibits to life.
